I snapped this pic of Benjy and Bro. Wayne Squyres at the front door of Antioch Baptist Church, greeting the congregation after the first service of the 2009 Bible Conference. Bro. Wayne had just preached a very revealing sermon from Habakkuk, chapter 1, about how the people had been reformed, yet they had not repented. Bro. Wayne talked about how the law can reveal sin, it can rebuke sin, and it can reform people … but the law cannot create a clean heart. The only way to have a clean heart is through repentance. I enjoyed the following quote from his sermon:

We cannot have the fruit of the gospel without the root of the gospel.

I love the annual Bible conferences at Antioch! While some churches have chosen to do less revival-type ministry, Dr. Ray Spence, chooses to do more! He has a heart for ministry like no one I’ve ever met, and he has a beautiful gift of encouragement, which he uses to exhort God’s people to be sincere in their faith. In keeping with that desire, Bro. Ray has an interesting concept of how to fan the flame in his congregation.

Here’s the way Bro. Ray’s plan worked … The Bible Conference began on Wed. night, with a few praise songs from Antioch’s very gifted youth choir (see pic above), Benjy provided special music, and Bro. Wayne Squires preached. Wednesday night was fantastic, and the excitement was building for the bigger events on Thur. and Fri. evenings.

On Thursday evening, Benjy lead the praise time, Bro. Wayne Squyres preached again, there was a 15 minute intermission, and when we resumed the service, we had a FANTASTIC choir from another church in the community which sang a couple songs, then Bro. Tommy Brill  preached and concluded with an invitation. What a night! The house was packed!

Friday evening was the biggest night of all. We had not one, not two, but THREE preachers! Benjy opened the service with a time of congregational praise and the choir sang two great songs, Bro. Don Taylor preached, there was a 10 minute intermission, and when we resumed, Benjy sang a couple songs, then Dr. Ron Herrod preached. There was another 10 minute intermission, and Benjy sang a couple more songs to draw us back to worship, then Bro. Kara Blackard preached and concluded with an invitation.

What a powerful way to recharge God’s people!

Benjy took three days off work at NASA, and we camped at Okatibbee Lake in Meridian, during this revival. We didn’t catch many fish, but we did enjoy some time on the lake, thanks to Bro. Ray who loaned us his bass boat.
