Okatibee Lake

Okatibbee Lake 2009

We finished up the revival at in Prentiss on Wednesday evening, left the camper at Lake Jeff Davis, and headed back home so Benjy could finish the rest of the week at the Stennis Space Center, where he works full-time as a network engineer for the Navy. On Saturday, we drove back to Prentiss, hitched up the camper and moved it up to Meridian, where we would be doing a Bible Conference at Wednesday through Friday.

Early morning on Okatibbee Lake.

We set up camp on Okatibbee Lake, like we did last year, stayed overnight, and drove back to Picayune, so Benjy could work Monday and Tuesday, then drove back up to Meridian for the conference. We try to save as many vacation days as possible, so we can have time available to do a couple of away-from-home ministry events like this one, and still have time for a real family vacation.

The Bible conference was great! I love Pastor Ray Spence’s unique approach to revival … adding more to the service each night and building intensity as the week progresses. I also love the fact that Pastor Ray loans us his bass boat when we visit. What a good friend he is! We got up early a couple mornings and fished till it was too hot to be on the water, or maybe a little past that, from the looks of McKenzie in this pic.

This was the only thing we caught all week, but we had fun spending time together, and that’s what’s important. We threw this one back, and scheduled an off-shore fishing charter for the following week in Gulf Shores, AL. We had already planned to spend some vacation time on the coast after the revival was over, but now we were wanting to catch something big! The Lord blessed us with an amazing time on that trip and a once-in-a-lifetime sighting of a whale shark!

We had a couple of interesting neighbors at the campground. This family set up house keeping on our left … crawdads, crayfish, crawfish, mudbugs, call them whatever you like, but don’t call me if you’re serving them for dinner! YUCK!

Another neighbor munched breakfast next to us early one morning. I noticed it had a funny limp, and when we got closer, we could see that it was missing one leg. I felt sorry for it, but it had found a safe home in the forest by the lake, where there aren’t many predators and low growth food is plentiful.

This air boat belonged to a guy a few lots down from us. I’ve never seen one of these in action before, so I hoped to see him running it while we were there. I got my wish early one morning when I was outside at the picnic table having my prayer time and Bible study. He started the engine, and I nearly jumped out of my skin! I never dreamed it would be so LOUD. Still, it was fun to watch, and it worked better than any alarm clock we’ve ever owned, because the rest of the family was up and outside in no time!
