I Don’t Talk Much … Yeah, Right!

What I’m trying to say is that I don’t do much public speaking … you know … the kind where you stand in front of a lot of people and they are all looking at YOU and expecting you to share something of value! That’s what I meant. I could never get away with saying I’m the quiet type, because most of you know me too well to let me get away with that kind of fibbing! Anyway, I was surprised to get an invitation to speak again so soon after I helped the women of kick-off their new women’s ministry last month by sharing a beautiful teaching about the Jewish Wedding and the Return of OUR Bridegroom.

Harmony Baptist Evening Service

I don’t know exactly what I was saying when McKenzie snapped this pic, but I was sharing a very surprising insight God gave me late last year about 10 Good Things Found In Hell! If that sounds interesting to you, you can read my notes by clicking the link.

Pastor , of , has wonderful vision of believers encouraging each other by sharing how God is working in their life. That’s why I was speaking last Sunday evening … he had asked me to share a testimony of something God had recently done in my life, or something God had recently taught me, and I was so very pleased to have the opportunity to encourage that sweet congregation. We need to see that God is real and actively working and speaking in the lives of His people!

I’ve been reading about the ministry of Francis and Edith Schaeffer, lately. They became missionaries in the late 40′s. Shortly after the end of World War II, they moved their family to Switzerland and developed a profoundly successful ministry of leading people to the Lord by simply developing relationships with them and consistently sharing about God’s Word and His activity in their life. Isn’t that what the church is supposed to be doing? I believe it is … and God confirmed this to me through a book I just finished reviewing for Thomas Nelson Publishing, called Fearless. Near the end of the book, author Max Lucado makes this observation about the disciples after Christ’s crucifixion:

They kept “going over all these things that had happened” (Luke 24:14 MSG). Isn’t this a picture of the church – sharing notes, exchanging ideas, mulling over possibilities, lifting spirits? And as they did, Jesus showed up to teach them, proving “when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there” (Matt. 18:20 MSG).

I’m making this my new focus in ministry … sharing what I’ve read in the Word, telling about what I’ve seen God doing lately, and inviting others to join in the conversation about how great our God is. I believe this is the kind of as-you-are-going witnessing God was speaking of when He said, “Go ye therefore …”
