Here Comes The Bride!
Aug 7th, 2009
I love it when God calls a person to lead out in some new area, and they step out in obedience and DO IT! That’s just what happened recently at West Poplarville Baptist Church when the Lord challenged Katie Jarrell to start a women’s ministry there. Under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Wilcox, West Poplarville has been steadily growing and adding new ministries, but until last month, there wasn’t an active women’s ministry in place. So Katie shared her vision with Bro. Kevin, and the West Poplarville Women’s Ministry began to take shape.
Katie chose to start the women’s Bible study by focusing on the woman’s role in a godly marriage, and a special kick-off event was scheduled, including a themed dinner and a speaker. The theme for the evening was ‘Here Comes the Bride’, and I was asked to speak to the women about how we (believers) are to prepare ourselves for the return of our bridegroom, Jesus Christ.
I’m not a ‘real’ speaker … I just talk … but it worked out, because the Lord lead me to such interesting material, and the women were so warm and friendly, that I had no problem talking and sharing the beautiful picture of the Jewish Wedding and the Return of OUR Bridegroom.
There were about 30 women at the dinner, including two of my very best friends … Tracie Putnam and GeAnna Ladner. They rode with me to Poplarville, and I was blessed to have their company. We laughed and talked all the way there, then sat in the driveway and talked about teenagers and marriages and extended family issues for a long while after the event was over … and we decided (again!) that it is GOOD to have Christian friends. The love and fellowship and godly advice you receive from those relationships are invaluable. Several years ago, I heard someone say that every person you allow into your life, leaves a deposit of some sort. That very reason is a big part of why I’m proud of Katie for starting the women’s ministry at West Poplarville. Who knows how lives will be changed because of the good deposits those women make in each other’s lives!
