Happy Thanksgiving 2009

Here we are at the Thanksgiving season again. Didn’t we JUST do this? Time hurries by so fast … and often, without even noticing, we receive and consume an abundance of blessings. I’m so thankful the founding fathers of our nation saw the need to stop all activity one day each year and consider the blessings God has poured out on us. What wise leaders they were!

As President, on October 3rd 1789, George Washington stated the following proclamation and created the first Thanksgiving Day designated by the national government of the United States of America:

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God …”

Oh, that we had men of that heart and wisdom in the leadership positions of our nation today! Those great men saw the need to lead our nation in thanking God AND obeying His will. Things are changing fast in America lately, and obedience to God is no longer a priority. But God’s people have a powerful tool that can turn things around again … PRAYER. God has given us a sure promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

We’ve heard it over and over in revivals and prayer meetings the last several years, but I’ve noticed something … our land has not been healed. I believe this is a strong indicator that God’s people are not praying God’s way. Would you join us this Thanksgiving and ask the Lord to teach us how to humble ourselves and pray, how to seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways? If God’s people don’t get this right, we have no room to ask God to bless America.

A Word Of Thanks From Us To You

We’ve had a busier ministry schedule this year than ever before, which means that we have had the joy of worshiping with more of you this year than ever before … and we want to say thanks for all the encouragement, prayers, meals, and other blessings that you have shared with us as we passed through your congregation. What privilege to be welcomed as family in so many churches!
